Part 1 - Research Adrenaline Adrenaline is a sympathomimetic drug which mimics the effects of the sympathic nervous system. It has a white colour and is an odourless crystalline powder. It is soluble in solutions of mineral acids and alkalis. It has the following structural formula:
What does this drug do to the body - the effects? The most common uses of epinephrine in general are to relieve respiratory distress (due to bronchospasm), to give faster relief of hypersensitivity reactions to drugs and other allergens, and to delay the action of infiltration anaesthetics.
Temporary and minor anxiety, headaches, fear and palpitation (abnormally fast beating of heart) can occur after therapeutic doses, particularly with individuals characterised with constant extreme intensity or emotionalism. What dangers exist for users? Side effects The following are some of the side effects which may occur with therapeutic doses, especially in hyperthyroid individuals:
Cardiovascular System
increased blood pressure up to 55%
increased peripheral vascular resistance
Nervous System
fear
agitation
tenseness
headache
tremor
dizziness
nervousness
excitability
*weakness Respiratory System *prolonged asthmatic attacks
*pulmonary edema How is it taken? Adrenaline can be by an injection, intramuscularly (muscles) or subcutaneously (under skin) Part 2 - Contribute & Comment Part 3- Personal Reflections 1) List three things you learnt about drugs during this project.
The drug adrenaline is different from the chemical produced naturally in our bodys
2) List three things you would like to learn about in the future concerning drugs.
How it affects our body
3) List three things you enjoy about using this learning environment (Wiki).
You can get motivated by other students' pages
4) List three things you dislike about using this learning environment (Wiki). *The formatting is very complicated *If we forget to save, we lose all the information when the interent freezes *Everyone can read what you type (no privacy) 5) Do you prefer traditional written essays or creating a Wiki page for assessment?
I prefer a Wiki page but I think creating a poster would be a great idea 6) How do you feel about contributing to other people’s pages 7) How do you feel about other people contributing to your page?
I think it’s great help in case we miss out any information. 8) How do you feel about self-assessment?
It is a brilliant for us to learn how to reflect and evaluate on our work. 9) Which topic do you feel personally was more beneficial in semester one –drugs or love?
Love is more beneficial because we are involved in it throughout our whole life, while I do not get involved with harmful drugs. 10) If you could choose your own topics for PSE what would you like to study?

Adrenaline can:
· Increase blood pressure
· Increase heart rate
· Increase air entry
· Increase blood glucose
· Stimulate cardiac activity
· Reduces allergic reactions by reducing inflammatory response caused by histamine
